About Ja Qiu

Ja Qiu, born in 1977 in Shanghai, China, earned his master's degree from the Shanghai University Academy of Fine Arts in 2004. In 2015, he pursued further studies as a visiting scholar at the Royal Academy of Arts in London and currently lives and works in Shanghai. He utilizes a variety of materials, including found objects, cement, wood, plaster, resin, and clay, to explore fundamental questions about sculpture—specifically, the relationship between ourselves and objects, and the most apparent ways in which objects are created. By deconstructing and reassembling objects, Ja creates visual illusions, enriching the dimensions of reality and psychological space. His work is characterized by its complexity, inviting viewers to reflect on the creative process and the relationship between form and function.
